Quick answers.
- Can I submit an Amazon order confirmation email to Step Up?
- No. Step Up's reimbursement guidance states that order confirmation emails, packing slips, and order summary screenshots are not accepted as proof of purchase or payment.
- When does an official Amazon invoice become available for Step Up?
- An Amazon invoice is only generated once the item has physically shipped and your payment card is charged. You cannot download the official invoice while the order is still pending or processing.
- How do I submit an Amazon receipt that has both school and personal items?
- Step Up instructs parents to highlight or circle the specific educational items they want reimbursed on mixed receipts, or neatly cross out personal items not being claimed.
- What should I do if an Amazon receipt is placed on hold in EMA?
- Review the specific hold reason inside EMA. In most cases, you simply need to download the official shipped invoice PDF showing the last four digits of your payment card and upload it to the existing claim.
The short version.
Submitting Amazon receipts is the single most common source of reimbursement delays for Florida scholarship families. The problem is almost always document selection:
- Order confirmations are rejected: Step Up does not accept order confirmation emails, order detail web screenshots, or packing slips from Amazon boxes.
- Wait until items ship: Amazon does not charge your credit card until items dispatch. The official invoice that Step Up requires is only generated after physical shipment.
- Download the real PDF invoice: On Amazon desktop or mobile browser, go to Your Orders, click View Invoice, and save the printable invoice as a PDF.
- Mixed orders are allowed: If you bought homeschool curriculum alongside household groceries, you do not need to separate orders at checkout. Step Up asks parents to clearly circle or highlight the educational items for reimbursement, or cross out items you are not requesting.
If your claim was already placed in a pending status, review our checklist for fixing on-hold receipts in EMA.
What Step Up requires on an Amazon invoice.
Under Step Up's receipt criteria, every store or online retailer receipt must clearly capture five distinct fields:
- Retailer name: Amazon must be clearly printed at the top of the invoice.
- Purchase date with the year: The invoice must display the exact order date including the full calendar year.
- Itemized description: The specific product title must appear. Generic descriptions like educational supplies or general materials are too vague and will cause an immediate hold.
- Purchase price breakdown: The document must show the itemized subtotal, taxes, shipping fees, and grand total.
- Proof of payment: The bottom of the invoice must display the payment method (for example, Visa, Mastercard, or Discover) along with the last four digits of the card used. If any portion of the order was paid using an Amazon gift card or reward points balance, Step Up will deduct that amount; see our guide on Step Up gift card and store credit rules.
To verify acceptable payment proofs, read our Step Up proof of payment guide.
Step-by-step: downloading the approved invoice.
Follow these steps on a computer or mobile web browser (the Amazon mobile app often hides the printable invoice link):
- Log into Amazon: Go to Your Account and select Your Orders.
- Locate the order: Find the order containing your student's learning materials. Make sure the order status shows as delivered or shipped.
- Click "Invoice": On the top-right corner of the order box, click the Invoice link next to the order number.
- Select printable invoice: In the pop-up menu, select Printable Order Summary or Invoice 1.
- Save as PDF: Use your browser's print dialog (Ctrl+P or Command+P) and set the destination to Save as PDF.
- Mark eligible items: If the order includes non-educational items, use a digital PDF highlighter or pen tool to clearly highlight the eligible educational purchases, or neatly cross out the personal items.
For broader categories of allowable learning tools, see what PEP covers and the PEP Purchasing Guide, explained.
Common mistakes that trigger 30-day holds.
When an invoice fails to meet Step Up's standards, reviewers place the claim on hold. The handbook specifies that parents have 30 days to provide corrections, and “the sixty (60) day review period starts over when the requested information is received.”
Avoid these frequent mistakes:
- Submitting digital order details instead of the invoice: Screenshots from the Amazon mobile app usually omit the seller's full business name and tax breakdowns.
- Using gift cards or reward points: If an order was paid entirely with Amazon gift cards or reward points, the receipt shows a zero-dollar card transaction, preventing Step Up from verifying the parent's payment custody.
- Uploading before shipment: If items in a multi-item order ship separately, Amazon may issue multiple partial invoices. Wait until all items have shipped and upload the corresponding invoice that matches your requested reimbursement total.
